Dam Busters - Operation Chastise by rOEN911 Dam Busters - Operation Chastise by rOEN911
Cinema4d/photoshop/vue

More info :

No. 617 Squadron is a Royal Air Force aircraft squadron based at RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland. It currently operates the Tornado GR4 in the ground attack and reconnaissance role. It is commonly known as the "Dambusters", for its actions during Operation Chastise against German dams during the Second World War.

Operation Chastise was an attack on German dams carried out on 16–17 May 1943 by Royal Air Force No. 617 Squadron, subsequently publicised as the "Dam Busters",[1] using a specially developed "bouncing bomb" invented and developed by Barnes Wallis. The Möhne and Edersee Dams were breached, causing catastrophic flooding of the Ruhr valley and of villages in the Eder valley, while the Sorpe dam sustained only minor damage. Two hydroelectric powerplants were destroyed and several more were damaged. Factories and mines were also either damaged or destroyed. An estimated 1,600 people drowned. The damage was mitigated by rapid repairs by the Germans, with production returning to normal in September

Wonderful sense of intensity, of culmination, great composition, lovely way of showing off both the Lanc and the basic details of the bomb.  Tremendously impressive.

Very nicely done. On a point of historical detail, the Type 464 (Provisioning) Lancasters used by 617 Squadron did not have those H-shaped AN-148 'Rebecca' receiving antennas either side of the nose, which were a later development. (See for example: i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/0….  Cheers.

I remember watching the movie about this as a kid - late 50's? Was fascinated by them at the time and ever since. Such a clever idea! They used a similar idea in the movie 'Force 10 from Navarone', not dropping bouncing bombs but in setting off explosives inside the base of a dam and using water pressure to finish the job in order to take out a bridge further down the river.

Amazing work, as always! I like the Dambuster history a lot, even I used to play the game when I was 14 with a Commodore64k. So I realize... The Dambuster Lancasters didn't have dorsal turret! ;-)

Pretty good work mate. The Eder dam is just 40 miles from my home, I sometimes go there and have a good time. It is a wonderfull piece of landscaspe. When I am standing on the dam I imagine sometimes how it was back in 1943. And I is good to know that all enemies became friends now...

Love the mood that you accomplished here. Great work as usual, very inspiring. Greetings from Germany.

Beautiful, as usual. If I remember the movie (recommend watching [link] ) correctly, didn't the bombers make their attack runs one at a time except when escorted by bombers who had already dropped their payload? This is probably before the run since their above ground/water level triangulating spotlights are not on. That and no sign of AAA.

If my memory serve me right about the move, they had no escorts, and i mean NOBODY!!!, they used the watch towers to guide the bombers in and drop their load.
I think they used a used a piece of wood or metal to match up the towers to the dam......

 That was a good movie

Quickly, what do you use to texture? i have a load of models in C4D which need texturing but i have no idea how apart from the standard way of using the materials in c4d and manipulating those.

Great rendering.

I find it more amazing than the bombing that the Germans were able to recover from their losses so quickly, damn.
